The novel, narrated by Mello, begins with the introduction to a series of murders that take place in Los Angeles. Three people, apparently unconnected with each other, were murdered in their rooms locked from inside. The only weak link among the three murders is the presence of strange dolls of Japanese origin, located on each of the crime scene. Elle will contact Naomi Misora ask for his help in resolving the case
